Chairs at the InstituteThe Institute of Food Technology and Bioprocess Engineering belongs to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Dresden University of Technology and, as an administrative unit, comprises the Chairs of Food Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering and - since 2002 - the Chair of Cellular Machines (Professor Daniel Müller). After finalisation of a number of reconstruction activities on >>October 1st, 2004, all pilot-plant facilities, offices and laboratories are now centralised at the Bergstraße location. After the foundation of the former Institute of Food Technology within the Faculty of Technology in 1956 by Prof. Liske, the institute extended its scientific profile by installing a special laboratory for food rheology (Prof. Tscheuschner) and by establishing a biotechnology unit, headed by Prof. Raeuber (1986). The institute in its current form has been re-established in 1992 by Prof. L.Linke and complemented in 1996 by the installation of a Chair of Bioprocess Engineering (Prof.T.Bley). In autumn 2002, Prof.H.Rohm has been appointed for the Chair of Food Engineering. The spectrum of the scientific activities of the institute may be characterised by consequently linking Engineering and Science, with special emphasis on chemistry and biology. Whereas the food engineering unit is dealing with the whole production line of food materials, ranging from the agricultural raw material to costumer-friendly convenience products, the bioprocess engineers are mainly focusing on biotechnological processes that facilitate the production of high value products with sustainable technologies. The extended and careful application of renewable resources in particular production processes will determine the field of activities of the institute within the next years. |
