The field of facility planning is characterised by planning, realising and operating production systems in particular as well as an entire factory with its main, auxiliary and secondary fields. Facility planning covers a wide range of topics: from an integrated product and process organisation or developing production systems to dimensioning, structuring and designing. Furthermore, facility planning deals with setting up and running a factory (this includes for example; project management, logistics of production or production planning and control). In this context, special methods, data models, tools, performance measurement instruments and case studies are presented.

Quests for a sustainable development are dealt by the fields of factory ecology, disposal logistics and environmental management.
