The Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technolgy at the TU Dresden is the only university research center in the field of textile and ready-made technology that is composed of two professorships.

The Institute’s main functions focus on providing a high-quality curriculum to students and research activity, both concentrating on the following objectives:

• Offering  excellence in education to its students and doctoral candidates by giving its students a solid scientific foundation and up-to-date practical experience.

• Conducting fundamental research activity and industry-oriented projects.

• Continually expanding of interdisciplinary cooperation with research institutes in various disciplines and industry partners.

The ITM’s modern infrastructure enables successful education programs and research projects to be realized. A significant advantage is the interdisciplinary research environment at the TU Dresden and the presence of several research institutions not affiliated with the University. This unique setting and an already existent textile network facilitates the ITM in the rapid development of new, innovative technologies and products.
