Dr. Günter Vollmer, PhD, Professor for Molecular Cell Physiology &Endocrinology received a Diploma in Biochemistry and a PhD in Devlopmental Biology from the Eberhard-Karls University in Tübingen in 1981 and 1984 respectively. From 1984 – 1985 he was Postdoc at the Max-Planck-Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen. In 1986 he moved to Lübeck to establish and run a research group on Molecular Endocrinology within the Institute for Biochemical Endocrinology. In 1989 he did a sabbatical of 7 month as “Visiting Assistant Professor” in the Department of Pathology of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He received his habiltation for Molecular Endocrinology in 1992 and became acting head of the Institute for Molecular Medicine form June 1997 until July 1998. In August 1998 he was appointed as head of the Department for Environmental Toxicology at the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology in Schmallenberg. In April 1999 he moved to Dresden to become Professor for Molecular Cell Physiology & Endocrinology at the Institute for Zoology at the Technische Universität Dresden.
