At the chair there are two main directions of research. Following the maxim of unity of research and teaching subjects in research are the same as those addressed in teachings. On the one hand there is a theoretical, very explorative line of research centred on the conceptual and theoretical further development of production and cost theory. On the other hand there are problems to solve which are relevant for the use in industry. In this context are specific questions, for example such as production planning and control as well as lot size planning. That means that practical orientation is very important for the research, which aims at least at an indirect practical utilisation. Normative results deriving from research work shall be communicated to the management by publishing in suitable media. At the same time problems connected to those fields of research offer a basis for directly applied research in practical third-party funded projects.
