Our laboratory studies meiosis in mammals (figure 1.) Errors in meiosis can result in an abnormal number of chromosomes, or aneuploidy. Aneuploidy leads to clinical conditions such as pregnancy loss, Down Syndrome, and poor oocyte quality and infertility. Our aim is to understand meiotic chromosome behaviour and chromosome segregation in mammals through the identification and characterization of novel meiosis specific proteins. Our methods include large scale functional genomic screening, expression analysis with microarrays, generation of knock-out and transgenic mouse models, RNAi and biochemistry.

Chromosomes (blue) align on the metaphase spindle, stained by antibodies recognising tubulin (green).
