Requirement - Login

Everyone who has a login with the center of information services and high performance computing (abbreviated as ZIH) may use our email services. This includes students and most staff members. At the same time you're assigned an email address in the form of firstname.lastname@mailbox.tu-dresden.de, which you should use with your correspondence.

Webmailer

The ZIH operates a webmailer, which means that you can retrieve, create or reply emails without the neccessity of a mail client. Also, important settings can be changed that affect your emails, like forwarding, absence or a spam filter.

Helpful information for setting up your mail client

You may also use your own mail client. Unfortunately we cannot provide detailed descriptions in English on how to set up your client, however there are descriptions available in German for Mozilla Thunderbird, Pegasus-Mail, Outlook, Eudora, KMail, Evolution-Mail, Apple-Mail and Entourage (please consider changing the webpage language to German for this matter).

The ZIH offers access to your email account via POP3 as well as with IMAP. An encrypted connection via SSL is neccessary for retrieving and especially sending emails. You will need to enter the following information in your mail client:

Mail-address: Firstname.Lastname@mailbox.tu-dresden.de (staff members only: firstname.lastname@tu-dresden.de)
POP3 Server (Incoming Mailserver):  mail.zih.tu-dresden.de
IMAP Server : mail.zih.tu-dresden.de
SMTP-Server (Outgoing Mailserver): mail.zih.tu-dresden.de
You must activate SSL/TLS und authorisation via login for each server!
Login or login name for all servers: Your login at the ZIH (note: logins do NOT begin with a capital letter)
Password for all servers: your password to the above login-name
Polling interval:  at least 10 minutes
