TU Dresden’s faculties of Electrical and Computer
Engineering, of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, of
Mechanical Engineering, the Institute of Media and
Communication and the Institute of Business Management earned
excellent positions in the current “Diverse Excellence”
university ranking of the Center of University Development
(CHE).
The new ranking of „Diverse Excellence“ not only attests German
universities excellence in the field of research, but also
evaluates the application of the research, internationality and
student orientation. Thus it becomes clear quickly that
diversity is the strength of the German university
system.
TU Dresden is one of the few universities in Germany to excel
over all dimensions – it ranks in top positions in the subjects
of Psychology, Electrical Engineering and Information
Technology.
Professor Klaus Janschek, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and
Computer Engineering, comments the excellent rating: “We are
very pleased to see our efforts for a high-quality, modern and
international education and research fall on fertile ground and
to be honoured accordingly. After a top position in the
research rating ETIT of the Science Council, we were awarded
yet another top position. The successful launch of our diploma
course of regenerative energy systems in the winter semester
2011/2012 in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering is another indicator that we have our finger on the
pulse of time and are acting accordingly.”
Professor Clemens Kirschbaum, spokesperson for the subject of
Psychology, is also pleased with the result: „The current CHE
university ranking proves that the Psychology department in
Dresden is a top institute in Germany. To reach the top group
in all four dimensions ‘research, application of research,
internationality and student orientation’ it takes the effort
of a team whose members all set the highest standard of
research and teaching.”
The new extra evaluation of the CHE university ranking uses
data that were accumulated for the rankings in 2010 and 2011
from the universities for linguistics and cultural sciences,
law, economics and social sciences as well as engineering.
Different indicators from the ranking were put together for the
dimensions research, internationality, application of research
and student orientation.
All results can be found in the CHE working paper # 149 titled
„Vielfältige Exzellenz 2011 – Forschung –
Anwendungsorientierung – Internationalität –
Studierendenorientierung im CHE Ranking“ and are available for
