The research focuses on the innovative use of wood as a building material, as well as the development and investigation of high-performance connections in timber construction. Our objective is to improve load-bearing capacity, ductility, and durability, as well as to increase material efficiency and the reliability of structural systems.

The research at the Chair of Timber Engineering focuses on the development of safe, high-capability, and sustainable timber structures for the built environment of tomorrow. The focus is on the reliability and robustness of timber structures and their connections, innovative timber and hybrid construction methods, and the development of innovative wood-based materials for structural applications. Another key area of focus is retrofitting existing buildings, which specifically addresses the topics of condition assessment, preservation, and repair/reuse of existing timber structures. Through close collaboration with industry, engineering offices, and standards-setting committees, scientific findings can be directly translated into practical solutions and design methods for structural timber engineering.
