Usability
Elective module in the main study period for the specialization in structural engineering
Prior knowledge
The skills to be acquired in the modules Fundamentals of Engineering Mechanics (BIW1-03), Advanced Engineering Mechanics (BIW1-04), Linear Algebra and Analysis (BIW1-05), Linear differential equations and stochastics (BIW1-06), Construction materials (BIW1-08), Static (BIW2-02), Fundamentals of Steel Construction and Timber Construction (BIW2-01) and Steel Construction, Timber Construction and Application of Fracture Mechanics (BIW3-03) are required.
Course contents
- Design, construction and calculation of steel buildings (especially hall structures)
- Calculation of crane track systems including fatigue strength
- Warping torsion of bars with thin-walled open cross sections
- Stability endangered by lateral torsional buckling steel members
- Stability cases plates- and buckling of shells
