Studying civil engineering – how to …
Do you want to study civil engineering? Good! Do you want to study for the internationally accredited Diploma in Engineering qualification in Dresden in order to have the best chances in a growing labour market? Excellent! But how do you get started? We have prepared a very easy five-point plan for this. As well as an introduction and a closing section.
Introduction
You should gather as much information as possible. These pages already contain lots of information – but no website can ever answer all your questions. The Faculty of Civil Engineering at TU Dresden has coordinators who can assist you further: Dr Torsten Heyer is the faculty's Academic Advisor.

Another important starting point is the Examination Office When all your questions have been answered, you are ready to enrol.
Five-point plan
- You must submit your data via the online portal for courses/subjects with no admission restrictions to start the online enrolment process. Enrol here! Courses always begin in the winter semester – the final opportunity for online enrolment is 15 September.
- Print out your letter of application for admission, as well as your applicant data control sheet. Once you have enrolled online, you will receive an applicant number under which your online enrolment has been registered with TU Dresden.
- Submit the requested documents. Your letter of application for admission, as well as all the requested documents, must be submitted to the Admissions Office by 15.09 for the winter semester. If documents are submitted after this deadline or are incomplete, admission may be delayed.
- First-year students are admitted if there is no reason for rejection in accordance with § 18 of SächsHSG and their semester contribution has been received in full. There are no tuition fees in Saxony.
- Semester start: the semester factsheet provides all enrolled students with information about beginning their studies.
The closing section
... is the actual start of your studies: the welcome and introductory event for each newly enrolled cohort takes place at the beginning of October, when you can join various groups, obtain information about the course and enjoy an initial social gathering, namely the traditional Student Council BBQ.
