Working group wildlife research
Within the chair of forest zoology our group deals with the ecology of wildlife, particularly mammals and birds in research and teaching. Our special attention focuses on hoofed game as well as native and alien carnivores or recolonizers.
In the center of our pan-European research projects are space-time-patterns of these animal species, based on the concept of radio-tracking. Studies about feeding ecology shed light on the trophical niche of different species and lead to the assessment of food-dependent interactions within a species community. This applies particularly to alien carnivores or recolonizers and their influence on prey species.
Reproductive studies and structural characteristics of populations complete the data basis to develop management concepts for the protection of species diversity.
