International Research Training Group „TreeDì“ funded by DFG
Great success for biodiversity research: The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is establishing the new International Research Training Group „TreeDì – Tree Diversity Interactions: The Role of Tree-Tree Interactions in Local Neighbourhoods in Chinese Subtropical Forests“. ThisPhD programme will be funded for the next four-and-a-half years with around 3.5 million euros. The main research question is: What factors and mechanisms in forests cause the positive effects of biodiversity? The project “Spatial aboveground complementarity” will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Goddert von Oheimb (TU Dresden) and Prof. Dr. Werner Härdtle (Leuphana University of Lüneburg).
The host university is Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU; Spokesperson: Prof. Dr. Helge Bruelheide), additional applicant universities are Friedrich Schiller University Jena and University of Leipzig. The PhD programme will be run in cooperation with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China. The doctoral researchers will be based at the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) in Leipzig.
