Research at the pulse of time
The professorship carries out original research on the basis of own expertise and a close collaboration with other institutes at the TU Dresden. Additionally, we are collaborating with many national and international partners ranging from universities, research institutes, state institutes and industry partners. Results of our work are based on the use of a wide range of traditional and modern methods.

Research at the institute
The Institute of General Ecology and Environmental Protection has extensive knowledge and experience in analysing biodiversity and the causes of their change as well as studying and assessing conflicts of land use and synergies between nature conservation and forestry. Particular attention is payed to current and ancient land use, to the natural and anthropogenic disturbance regimes, to long-term anthropogenic changes (climate change and nitrogen input in particular) and to organismic interactions as well as propagation.
The research approaches consider different spatial and temporal scales. They include analysis from the level of single organisms to whole landscapes and from one-time surveys to ecological long-term studies.
Our spectrum of methods includes a wide range of theoretical analysis, field observations, strictly controlled greenhouse experiments, and micro- to macro scale field experiments. Our research is highly interdisciplinary with an international focus. The institute is widely cross-linked to national and international partners. The importance and impact of our work is reflected and multiple research projects, an intensive list of publications, a large number of student dissertations (BSc, MSc, PhD) as well as in a range of scientific co-operations.
