Hunting training
Course to prepare for the hunter exam
As part of the optional module hunting-lore, there are lectures and exercises to prepare for the hunter exam only offered for the students in the winter semester by the Chair of Wildlife Ecology and Management. The corresponding module designation is FOBF 50 Hunting-lore (optional). Further more, another course to prepare for the hunter exam takes place without the full series of lectures in the summer semester.
Students who do not study Forest Sciences must have attended the lecture series in the winter semester first. Only under this precondition, it is possible for non Forest Science students to participate in a winter or summer semester course. For the recognition of the module hunting-lore, these students contact their respective responsible examination office in order to bring this examination to an e.g. engineer degree program as a non-technical module. After a successful application of the module hunting-lore as a non-technical module in a non Forest Sciences degree programme, the examination office responsible for the student contacts the examination office in Tharandt and make an enquiry about the grade after the completed examination.
Here, the differences between the two tests must be distinguished:
- The examination at the end of the module hunting-lore, in the bachelor’s study program Forest Science, is not relevant for obtaining the hunting license. Also, for the bachelor's degree program in Tharandt, no creditable performance points (ECTS points) will be awarded for the passed exam of this optional module. If students wish to take the hunter exam, they enlist themselves in the winter semester for the module hunting-lore one, but do not take the allotted time for the module exam because the hunter exam is not performed by the Chair of Wildlife Ecology and Management, but through the lower hunting authority of the respective administrative district offices.
- If you want to undergo the test situation at the Chair of Wildlife Ecology and Management without receiving eligible credits for the bachelor's degree program in Tharandt you also enlist yourself for the module examination hunting-lore. Those who change within the bachelor's degree program to another German forest faculty, where they can complete the bachelor’s degree program, may be allowed to carry 5 ECTS points at the new faculty with the successful completion of the module examination in Tharandt. In Tharandt there is definitely no recognition of this examination.
The lecture in the winter semester has the function of a training course to prepare for the hunter exam, but it doesn't need to be completed as part of a module examination. The student must apply for the hunter exam at the lower hunting authority of the respective administrative district offices.

The next course starts in July 2016 and will conclude in late September 2016 with the hunter exam. The enrollment for this takes place until July 2016. The enrolment in the optional module hunting-lore corresponds to the registration for the winter semester course. The enrolment takes place digitally via the education portal OPAL during the respective enrolment period (usually August), which is predetermined by the examination office. Additionally the registration is carried out analogically by the students signing up on enrolment lists at the beginning of the winter semester in October. The lists are available in the secretariat of the Institute of Silviculture and Forest Protection (see the contact section at the right of the screen). For the summer semester course, interested students only sign up on the enrolment lists provided in the secretariat lists of the previously mentioned institute (end of May). Enrolment on the educational portal OPAL is not possible for the summer semester course. For further questions about the lectures in the module hunting-lore you can contact the lecturer Dr. Torsten Krüger and the tutor Philipp Kob. Their contact addresses can be found on the staff page of this website.
