Research Interests
I am working in the research project PEKRIS which is funded by the German Ministry of Science (BMBF). This project mainly investigates the biotic interactions between the marine key species Euphausia superba (Antartic Krill) and salps in the Southern Oceans under climate change. To better understand this biotic interaction I am developing individual based models based on physiological theory (Check out the DEB-IBM Krill model in our model gallery). This project is coordinated by Prof. Bettina Meyer from the University of Oldenburg.
Apart from individual based marine ecology I have a brought scientific interests in questions of fire ecology, forest ecology and social-ecological systems. Methodologically I mainly work with individual-based models. Apart from being a researcher I serve the
scientific community as subject editor for Ecological Modelling and The American Naturalist.
