The Open Geospatial Consortium
The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc (OGC) is an international industry consortium of 370 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available interface specifications. OpenGIS® Specifications support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. The specifications empower technology developers to make complex spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications.

A Spatial Data Infrastructure should provide up-to-date digital geoinformation from many sectors of public managment and economy via webservices. While turning into a information society Saxony complies the rising demand for geoinformation with effective activities and the setting-up of efficient structures. To set-up a capable of bearing concept for the future here is a wide range of actors from public managment, economy and science in the "gdi.initiative.sachsen" involved to build up a common GDI in Saxony.

52°North Initiative for Geospatial Open Source Software GmbH is an international research and development company whose mission is to promote the conception, development and application of free open source geo-software for research, education, training and practical use. 52°North backs an open initiative, which is driven by leading research organizations and individuals in the international GIS field. Partners participate in research and development with focii on Sensor Web Enablement (SWE), Web Security and Digital Rights Management (DRM), as well as Web Processing.
