Geodesy Action Day – The Chair of Photogrammetry is committed to recruiting young scientists
Stand of the Chair of Photogrametry at the Geodesy Action Day
On 23 June 2025, the Chair of Photogrammetry presented its main areas of activity at the first Saxony-wide Geodesy Action Day. The event was organised by the Landesamt für Geobasisinformation Sachsen (GeoSN; State Office for Basic Geoinformation Saxony) and attracted around 300 guests, including 220 schoolchildren from all over Saxony. The guest of honour at the event was Minister of State Regina Kraushaar from the Saxon State Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
Dr Katja Richter and Steffen Isfort prepared a varied hands-on station to arouse the participants' interest in surveying-related topics and get them excited about the exciting profession of geodesy. Both work as research assistants at the Technical University of Dresden (Chair of Photogrammetry) and can tell exciting stories from their everyday work. Under the motto ‘From building to detail: laser scanning for young and old’, the pupils were given the opportunity to experience the latest technical equipment, such as the 3D surface scanner, in action and thus learn more about geodetic measurement and evaluation methods. The following programme items were among the highlights and met with great interest from the young audience:
- Capture a building with a modern laser scanner
- Displaying impressive 3D data and images directly on the tablet
- Precise scanning of small objects
We are delighted that our participation in the action day gave us the opportunity to get young people excited about the diverse world of surveying and show them the impressive possibilities of geodesy. Who knows - perhaps we will meet some of them again in the future, when the pupils of today become the young scientists of tomorrow.
