At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Hydro Sciences, the Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy, offers a project position as
Research Associate (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting as soon as possible. The position is initially limited until January 31, 2024. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). The position is part of the BMBF-funded project “Urban Water Management: German Expertise for Kazakh Cities”. The overall goal of the project is to develop alternative solutions for sustainable management of urban water resources in Kazakhstan.
Tasks
The work will focus on the development of a serious game for groundwater management, including the following specific tasks:

Participation in the development of the general concept

Conceptualisation, development and web-based implementation of a graphic user interface

Coupling the serious game to the web-based groundwater modelling platform INOWAS (www.inowas.com), which will be used as main calculation engine

Creation of serious game scenarios on groundwater management and managed aquifer
recharge and elaboration of online documentation

Participation in workshops and training courses.
Requirements
University degree in environmental sciences, geoinformatics, applied informatics or equivalent; advanced knowledge in development of web applications (python, PHP, Javascript, Typescript, and frontend frameworks); proficiency in written and spoken English; good communication skills. Of advantage are: experience in groundwater modelling (preferably MODFLOW), design and implementation of serious games, development of environmental software.
