Dr. Hannes Braßel honored with the SESAR Young Scientist Award 2025
Outstanding achievement in aviation research: Dr. Hannes Braßel, Research Associate at the Chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics, receives 1st place in the PhD category of the SESAR Young Scientist Award 2025.
The award recognizes outstanding research work with practical relevance in the field of Air Traffic Management (ATM) and aviation. The winners were announced during the SESAR Innovation Days in Slovenia.
Hannes Braßel was recognized for his excellent research on improving ground safety at airports, providing a scalable solution for airports worldwide and even for future vertiport environments. His research integrates LiDAR technology, computer vision and algorithms for the analytical description of ground handling and terminal processes. A key innovation is a simulation environment capable of generating highly accurate LiDAR data and providing precise positioning information under different weather conditions. This approach eliminates the need to collect real data and manual annotations while allowing easy customization to any airport.
We congratulate Hannes Braßel on this remarkable achievement and significant contribution to the future of flight safety and operations!
