Public handover of the funding decisions of the "Saxon Initiative Automated Shuttle in Public Transport - SIAS-ÖV
Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Protection, Dirk Panter hands over the funding decision to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernard Bäker
On 23.03.2026, the Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection, Dirk Panter, handed over the funding decisions to the consortium of the joint technology project "Saxon Initiative Automated Shuttle in Public Transport - SIAS-ÖV". Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernard Bäker and Dr. Steffen Kutter accepted the notification on behalf of TU Dresden's Chair of Vehicle Mechatronics.
The project, led by Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe, is aimed at the holistic development of a smart, integrated public transport mobility system with highly automated SAE Level 4 shuttle buses. These are expected to be used in regular operation and without drivers throughout Saxony from Leipzig from the 2030s.
The work of the Chair of Vehicle Mechatronics in the SIAS-ÖV project focuses on the following areas:
- Vehicle monitoring, self-adaptation and risk-minimized state
- Analysis, testing and durability testing of sensor technology in public transport use
- Consistent virtual and real validation methods and approval
The Chair of Vehicle Mechatronics is thus building on the successful pilot projects on automated and networked mobility for public transport and logistics and underlining its pioneering role and close partnerships with the project.
