47. Verkehrsplanerisches und Verkehrsökologisches Kolloquium: The effects of ridesourcing apps like Uber on travel behaviour and traffic externalities
The effects of ridesourcing apps like Uber on travel behaviour and traffic externalities (Auswirkungen neuer Mobilitätsdienstleistungen auf Verkehrsverhalten und externe Effekte)
Platforms such as Uber and Cabify change the way people move. What are the effects onto travel behaviour? Are transport externalities changed? Does Uber reduce or increase congestion? In order to take advantage of the benefits of those platforms we need to set regulatory rules. The seminar presents results of a recent survey of Uber users in Chile (N = 1600). Results point to different impacts on daytime and nighttime travel behaviour and to a likely increase in the number of vehicles-kilometers travelled. Finally, recommendations for the regulation of these technologies are discussed.
