International impulses for sustainable development: guest lectures and doctoral workshops on education and organizational responsibility
As part of the research colloquium of the Faculty of Business and Economics, our Chair of Sustainability Management and Environmental Economics was able to attract two internationally renowned researchers for a research stay: María Barreiro Gen (University of A Coruña) and Rodrigo Lozano (University of Gävle / Organisational Sustainability, UK).
María Barreiro Gen's presentation focused on "Sustainability Competences and Pedagogical Approaches with a Gender Approach." Her study sheds light on how universities teach sustainability competencies and the role gender plays in this process. The results show that female lecturers teach sustainable development in a more balanced way than their male colleagues and that female students develop more sustainability competencies. This underscores the need to more fully integrate gender perspectives into teaching concepts to make education for sustainable development more equitable and effective.
Rodrigo Lozano presented new research findings on the role of organizations in implementing the global sustainability goals under the title "Contribution of Organizations to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)". Based on a large-scale survey, he analyzed how companies address the SDGs. The results show that organizations usually only contribute selectively to individual goals. Lozano therefore advocates a paradigm shift: Instead of a purely integrative view of the SDGs, the focus should be on the concrete contributions of organizations.
Both presentations provided valuable input for the further development of research and practice in the field of sustainability – both in education and in organizational contexts. We sincerely thank our guests for their visit and the inspiring exchange!
