Article "A systematic review of bioenergy life cycle assessments" published in Applied Energy
Bioenergy is fostered globally and it is assumed that bioenergy will cover the majority of the final energy consumption provided by renewable energy in the upcoming years. This article investigates environmental impacts caused by the provision of biomass-based electricity and heat. A systematic literature research was performed to identify and compare bioenergy life cycle assessments. There are significant differences with regard to the estimations of environmental impacts of bioenergy. Therefore, a second issue addressed in this article is the investigation of methodological choices during the preparation of bioenergy life cycle assessments and their influence on results.
