Felipe Santos-Marquez receives Deutsche Bundesbank Award
Felipe Santos-Marquez from the Chair of Economics, especially International Economics, has been awarded the Deutsche Bundesbank Prize for the Support of International Research Cooperation. Felipe Santos-Marquez had applied to the call with the aim of receiving a grant for a research stay with Professor Vicente Royuela Mora at the University of Barcelona Business School.
Felipe Santos-Marquez holds a BSc in Physics and a master's degree in
International and Development Economics. Due to his education, he has a very strong quantitative background and excellent programming skills. Among other things, he is a member of the QuaRCS Lab, which works on regional science issues
with satellite data and other Big Data sources. The group at the University of Barcelona led by Vicente Royuela Mora is working on similar data,
analysis methods and software (Python/ArcGIS/Statistical Learning).
Felipe Santos-Marquez could realize his research stay in Barcelona from July 12-28, 2021. "Together with Vicente Royuela, we are now in the initial phase of an empirical research project on automation, structural change and regional inequality. We believe there is much more to find out about the relationship between structural change and income inequality between and within regions. I was also able to present my current research at TU Dresden to the professors and doctoral students at UB and received very valuable feedback from them," he summarizes in retrospect.
About Deutsche Bundesbank Prize:
The aim of the annual award is to financially support PhDs and postdoc candidates of the Faculty of Business and Economics in their efforts to establish and strengthen international research co-operations. PhD and postdoc reserch abroadand projects applied for by visiting academics from abroad who are invited to the faculty may be funded. The duration of the visit should be at least two weeks and up to a maximum of three months.
