Objectives & Content |
In this module students will learn how to run a manufacturing company by using an enterprise resource planning system. They will work in a team, decide on their strategy, implement it, and make decisions under time pressure. To do so we use ERPsim which is a business simulation game for SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA. Participants use a real ERP system to manage their virtual company in a competitive market. Win or lose, students will improve their knowledge of business processes and their understanding of how ERP systems are effective at managing those processes. In teams of 3 to 4 students participants will run their make-to-stock company by interacting with suppliers and customers. They will be sending and receiving orders, delivering products, and completing the whole cash-to-cash cycle. A first impression is given at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nYncO9hsLo Students will get to use a real SAP S/4HANA system to evaluate, inform and see the results of your decisions. The approach makes use of actual transactions provided by the SAP system as well as custom transactions, which provides a mix that is very close to what an ERP user would experience in the workplace. The simulator enables learning by generating a dynamic environment where it accelerates time (a business day is one minute!), simulates interactions with business partners, and automates administrative task execution. This approach allows participants to focus on decision-making and gives them an incentive to get better at translating their strategy into action using an ERP system. |

Forms of Teaching & Learning |
The course is divided into several parts and consists of computer lab sessions where students run their business using the simulation game and student presentations where they present their strategy. The overall grade of the seminar results from the quarterly and final presentations as well as the written elaboration of a business plan, a review of the business year and a short knowledge test. |
|
Frequency |
The module is offered every semester, once during the teaching period and sometimes additionally in between the regular teaching periods in a blocked format. |
