Benjamin Wolba
Institute of Theoretical Physics
"After starting my PhD in September 2017 at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, I enjoyed already working together with the DDocs for the organization of the Student Research Expo 2018. I think it is important that there is a representation for PhD students, as is for regular students, constantly striving for improving working conditions and supporting PhD students along their way. I am really looking forward to future collaboration and organizing additional events."
Paula Penckert
Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy
"I am hereby standing for the election of the doctoral council. For a long time I've been looking for an association, in which I can get involved. In my free time, I would like to be more committed. At the same time I am looking for an exchange on mainly scientific topics to learn something new. A nice side effect, of course, is getting to know other doctoral students and to network. Through my work at the Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy, the concept of sustainability is firmly anchored in me - so I would like to create sustainable results with my work in the doctoral council."
Mehmet Mutlu Atci
Institute of Sociology
"I am a doctoral candidate in sociology (Professur Makrosoziologie, Prof. Dr. Antonia Kupfer) and member of the Graduiertenakademie (GA). Being part of the GA Doctoral Council (DDocs) offers the opportunity to share interests, to connect with other doctoral candidates, to organize events and to improve the circumstances of doctoral candidates. Therefore, I would like to become a candidate for the next term of the GA Doctoral Council, the „DDocs“. I aim to be part of the team, to realize projects together and to share experiences."
Shamila Firdaus
Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF)
"I am running as a candidate for GA Doctoral Council, the „DDocs“ because I believe it is vital to empower the student body with a voice that will stand up for their improvement and networking. I hope to be a part of visible and approachable representative body. Therefore, I want to play an active role in the ongoing improvement of our fellow TUD students and its many facets."
Anne Geißler
Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy
"We are living in a world in which development, research, cooperation and a friendly open togetherness are indispensable. As a member of the Graduate Academy, I was openly and warmly received at the numerous workshops that strengthened my doctorate in my research project. I would like to integrate myself as PhD in the field of Environmental Sciences in the PhD Board and contribute my loyal, structured and open way to all members of the Graduate Academy to provide optimal conditions for their PhD.
In my experience, especially people who come not from Dresden face many hurdles, be it in finding accommodation or in administrative tasks. I would therefore like to help create suitable conditions for everyone to feel comfortable. I would also like to explicitly integrate the interdisciplinary field of environmental science with me as a candidate in the doctoral council, as we rely on the efficient use of resources in the anthropogenic period. Therefore, I would like to use all my available resources to support and all members sustainably and cooperatively on the path of the doctorate."
Olga Zyabkina
Institute of Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage
"My intention as a member of the DDocs is to help the Doctoral Council of TUD to grow into a strong and broad organization, which is able to unite PhD students from different fields of study and to provide support and help PhD candidates during the challenges they face in their PhD study. I’m as one of these PhD students feel the need of such a hand next to us."
Elvis Koci
Institute of System Architecture (Computer Science)
"As a PhD student in Computer Science, I am used to be more at the back-end. With my participation into the PHD council (GA), I hope to explore some of the front-end, as well. I am a firm supporter of the causes that GA promotes, and I am keen to contribute my part. Moreover, I look forward to network with my fellow PhD students, learn from them, discuss common issues, and find solutions."
Aparna Chandrasekar
Institute for Groundwater Management
"I would like to be a part of the PhD council, as I would like to foster active networking among the PhD students. I am extremely eager to organize various events like Science Open Days, Café Scientifique etc. that will not only enable researchers from various fields come together, but also enable the non- scientific community understand, learn, and integrate into our world."
Mario Garcia
Institut für Statik und Dynamik der Tragwerke
"After three years of hard work in this Council, I have nothing but really nice memories. I have gained a lot of experience and even improved my German. Our achievements wouldn’t be possible with all the support from the members of the Council and friends, and now that this term is coming to its end, I would like to continue as a member of the new Council. We still have many ideas that we were not able to develop, but with yoursupport we canmake it happen.”
Siavash Ghiasvand
Centre for Information Services and HPC (ZIH)
"During the past year we further established the DDocs and hosted several amazing events (e.g. ScienceBeer, Junior Scientist Party and DocCafé). To achieve this goal we -the members of the council- experienced many interesting experiences together, which I will never forget. Now, that this term ends it is the time to realize lots of ideas which we had in our mind but there was no time and possibility to make them happen. Therefore I would like to continue my membership of the PhD council for another year. When we work together, impossible is impossible."
Sabine Apelt
Institute of Materials Science
"I would like to be part of the DDocs for another term since I highly appreciate the supporting atmosphere in the team. There is still much work to do: to fight against alternative facts, collect information that are useful for all PhDs at the TU Dresden and to actively contribute to further improve the situation of doctoral candidates at the TUD in the long run."
