Components of the module

Content and Qualification

The content of the module includes:

• Principles and methods of Human-Machine System Technology
• Ergonomic, cognitive and engineering fundamentals
• Consideration of human factors in the design process
• Concepts and operationalization of usability and user experience
• Prototype-centered design (rapid prototyping)
• Human-centered design of human-machine systems (usability engineering)
• Evaluation of man-machine systems

Upon completion of the module, the students will master basic methods of the Human-Machine-System Technology for the description, analysis, design and evaluation of dynamic interactive systems and will be able to systematically deal with domain-specific questions of Human-Machine-Interaction.

The module consists of a lecture, an exercise based on this and a project, in which smaller design tasks are solved in group work.

Technical didactic concept

In the lecture (2 SWS), the students acquire the basic theoretical knowledge about the analysis, design and evaluation of Human-Machine-Systems. In the exercise (2 SWS), the theoretical basics are converted into practical action using simple examples and skills for applying the methods are acquired. In an accompanying project work (2 SWS, 30 hours per group member), the students will independently work on a given smaller problem in group work. The result will be presented by the students at the end of the lecture period
