Computer Science at TU Dresden. Unknown city, big campus, lots of new people. We are your student representatives, also known as FSR and warmly welcome you to the university. From now on, you are a student of the Faculty of Computer Science.
To make your start here go as smoothly and easily as possible, we have organized a lot of events during the week from 19th to 23rd of October before the lectures begin. At TU Dresden the orientation week is referred to as ESE.
All important information and dates for ESE 2020 will be published shortly.
First Things First – ESE 2020
The ESE starts this year on Monday, 19.10. with an introductory event in the livestream. You will find the livestream later on the homepage of the ESE website.
All new students of the Faculty of Computer Science are invited to participate in the ESE. In addition, there are special introductory events for some courses. For Bachelor, Master and Diploma in Computer Science and Media Informatics these are already included in the course schedule.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the helpers during the ESE week. You can recognize them well by their blue t-shirts. Of course you can always contact the FSR via e-mail, phone and social networks or just drop by the office.
The first semester introduction 2020 at the Faculty of Computer Science is also affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Taking into account of all necessary measures to ensure the protection against infection to create the best possible concept for you.
We are currently working on the final planning of the individual events and will inform you here regularly about updates.
The highlights of the week
Here is a short overview of the program. The detailed version and much more information can be found on the ESE website. Changes will be announced there and also via the social channels. So that you don't miss anything, follow us on Twitter, Instagram or check out our Telegram channel.
We carry out many ESE events digitally. So that you can participate in the full experience, you should have a working microphone. A webcam is optional.
We generally recommend the use of Microsoft Edge (Chromium) or Google Chrome as browser.
Monday
Introductory event — 9 am, Online-Livestream
After a new welcoming speeches, you'll get all the important informations you need for your first semester. Afterwards you get your amazing uni-bag with a lot of cool stuff
Tutorias — 10 am, check our website
Many ESE tutors will help you with your start into the big university world. We give you an overview of the week and everything you need to know.
Note: A working webcam and microphone would be great for you to participate in the full experience. You will get all instructions and accesses at the time.
Introduction of the teachers — 1:30 pm, Online-Livestream
After this event, you will know some of the faces you will often encounter in lectures in the front. The lecturers tell a little bit about themselves, their subject areas and the compulsory lectures of the first semesters. Including anecdotes, there won't be a dry eye! For you live and in colour.
Tuesday
Enrollment — 9 am, check our website
The most important appointment of the week. We will write you down in your timetable and explain everything that goes with it. That way nothing will go wrong in the first semester.

Lecture FSR — 12 am, Online-Livestream
What is this FSR, what does this gang actually do and can you eat it? We'll give you an insight into our work.
Campus scavenger hunt — 3 pm, check our website
Get to know our beautiful campus, solve riddles and get to know the other students while working as a team. And the best team can even win a price!
Note: All you need is a browser (Microsoft Edge Chromium, Firefox or Google Chrome), a microphone and possibly a webcam / mobile phone and the Safari browser is not supported.
Clubtour — 7 pm, check our website
Join us in experiencing Dresden's nightlife. On our tour of the student clubs you will even get the opportunity to meet students of other faculties as well. We will meet at Club Count Down.
Wednesday
Hiking tour — 9 am, check our website
It's Wednesday, so after the two certainly exciting first days at university, we shift down a gear. You can let the many impressions rest for a while on a hike through the beautiful Saxon Switzerland and enjoy the nature first.
game, cinema & ascii evening — 6 pm, check our website
The ascii is your chance to get involved with other students. The ascii always looks for new people. which want to help because it's fun and not because of money. If you would like to get to know the team and have a nice evening then come and join us. And by the way there is an ESE cinema and a chess and skat tournament.
Note: Enrollment is required for participation in the complete event. The cinema event will take place once on Wednesday and Thursday with limited seats. All information will follow during the ESE.
Thursday
Talks about the uni — 9 am, Online-Livestream

Nerd101 / Info market & Matriculation Ceremony — 1 pm, check our website
We invite you to our nerdy lecture series "Nerd101". Alternative: On behalf of the Rectorate and the Senate of the Technische Universität Dresden, Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger, Rector of the TU Dresden, cordially invites you to the ceremonial enrollment of the students of the new academic year.

Friday
Seminar group meeting — 10 am, check our website
Get to know your mentor and the other people in your seminar group and get rid of your most pressing questions.

ESE game — 2 pm, check our website
Bascially you will experience the whole first term in a few hours. Who will be successful, who will stop studying? Joins us on our last event of a fun week!
Note: You need the software Minetest (https://minetest.de), Mumble (https://www.mumble.info/) and a working microphone.
Neustadt-Pub tour — 7 pm, start at Albertplatz
Dresden can only be historical and dignified? Definitely not! In the Neustadt you will experience Dresden from its youthful, hip and lively side. The district in the north of the Elbe is synonymous with student pubs, club culture and irrepressible desire for art, culture and a cool blonde. On the pub tour through the heart of the New Town you will learn everything about the second city centre.
Saturday
Guides city tour — Do it yourself
Finally, of course, culture must not be neglected. During the city tour you will get to know the historical old town a little better.
