Wolfgang E. Nagel received his PhD 1993 at RWTH Aachen. He holds the professorship for computer architecture at TU Dresdens Instititute for Computer Engineering. He also leads this institute and is founding direcor of the Centre for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH). Furthermore, he was dean of TU Dresdens Faculty of Computer Science between 2006 and 2009.

He published more than 140 scientific papers about modern programming concepts, software tools for supporting the development of scalable and data-intensive applications, the analysis of innovative computer architectures, and the development of efficient parallel algorithms and methods. Prof. Nagel is chairman of the Gauß-Allianz e.V. and member of the international project „Big Data and Extreme-scale Computing (BDEC)“. Since October 2014, he is the scientific coordinator of the national competence centre for the intelligent usage of Big Data „ScaDS – Competence Center for Scalable Data Services and Solutions Dresden/Leipzig”.
