European Course of Cryogenics
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the ECC 2020 had to be cancelled. The possibility of organizing the course in 2021 is being discussed. Please check the webpage later for the following updates.
Intention and scope of the course
Based on an agreement between
• Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering / Germany,
• Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST), Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering / Poland and
• Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Trondheim / Norway,
the commonly organized academic courses in “Cryogenic Fundamentals” and “Cryogenic Processes” are offered – according to previous years – as well in 2020 again.
Lecture dates and locations
Date | Location | Focus |
---|---|---|
Aug. 10th - Aug. 14th 2020 | TU Dresden, Germany | Basics; liquid hydrogen technology |
Aug. 17th - Aug. 21st 2020 | WUST Wroclaw, Poland | Helium cryogenics; cryostat technology |
Aug. 24th - Aug. 28th 2020 | NTNU Trondheim, Norway | Liquefied natural gas; coolers |
Academic information
The content of the course is comprising two main subjects:
• Cryogenic Fundamentals
• Cryogenic Processes
In total these are rated with 12 ECTS credits. An acknowledgement is guaranteed for each of the three hosting universities. Participants from other universities are asked to double-check an acknowledgement at their respective home university. The courses will be held exclusively in English. Full day classes are scheduled each week from Monday to Friday. Lecturers are members of said organizing universities and as well as a number of dedicated external experts. In addition to the lessons, technical excursions, tutorials and demonstrations will be performed. The course will finish with two written examinations (fundamentals, processes) according to ECTS standards.
Funding situation
The participants are expected to travel on their own expenses and responsibility. Please make your travel plan according to the travel dates stated below. The costs for accommodation, breakfast and lunch are covered by the hosting universities, mainly financed by respective funding. Usually a limited number of excursions and social events are also covered. Any request for individual financial support should be addressed to the respective own affiliation.

Who can apply?
The course is open to all graduate and PhD students from all over the world (respective dedication to cryogenics, as well as a good pre-knowledge in engineering and/or process engineering presupposed). Due to a limited capacity an application process is established.
How can I apply?
You are a student of one of the three organizing universities? Direct your application to your local contact person. You are student of another university? Just direct your application as the German students to the Technische Universitaet Dresden contact person. No strict application deadline is given. But, due to organizational, housing, travel and funding reasons, only a limited number of participants from each university, plus a limited number of international guest students can be admitted. Therefore all applicants are encouraged to hand in their application as soon as possible (before end of April at the latest) to increase their chances for participation.
Application requirements:
a) Curriculum vitae including a picture
b) Letter of motivation
