Research Group Bioprocess Engineering
The research group of Bioprocess Engineering investigates the behavior of microorganisms in a technical environment. The aim is the acquisition of data being required for the development and optimization of biotechnological production processes. In detail, the kinetics of bio-reactions are determined and transport processes are characterized. An important tool in doing this is the data analysis and balancing of processes using mathematic models.
The main focus of the research group is the use of the metabolic performance of yeasts. Currently, we are studying the production of ethyl acetate from whey by Kluyveromyces marxianus and the pheromone-based communication of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
