Textiles are not just found in our closets. We can also find them in automobiles, airplanes, machines, medical devices, sports equipment and modern buildings. As a production engineer, you will be responsible for the professional setup of textile machinery. Technical prowess and a passion for machines are prerequisites for this job. You will operate and monitor modern textile manufacturing equipment, take on responsibility for a smooth production chain and work in the production of new textile fabrications. Production engineers are experts in the field of textile materials. They must be familiar with the structure of raw and fibrous materials as well as with the properties of textiles. Particular focus lies on developing technical textiles, which currently make up 60% of all textile production in Germany and boast an annual growth of 7%. More and more highly qualified, skilled workers are needed in the textile industry to keep up with increasing product diversity and growing demands.

Course of vocational training

During the three-year training period, you will acquire comprehensive knowledge surrounding the development and production of technical textiles. You will learn the required skills and knowledge through experimental work in research and development projects at our research laboratory and workshops as well as through off-site training blocks at the vocational school.

• Knowledge of textile materials, especially high-performance fibers like carbon, glass, ceramics for composite materials
• Development and analysis of textile material structures
• Technological processes of fiber and textile production
• Composition and function of fiber and textile production machines
• Production machine setup
• Maintenance and repair/modification of fiber and textile production machinery
• Production of machine parts in the mechanical workshop
• CAD-supported development of textile structures and electronic machine control
• Manufacturing of textile products as part of research projects and industry commissions
• Application of accident prevention measures and legal stipulations in textile production
• Planning and implementation of quality assurance measures

Prerequisites

You should be interested in the topic and be manually adept. You must also have completed Realschule (high school equivalent). Excellent dexterity, attention to detail and endurance are also expected. Basic experience working with computers is a plus.
