TU Dresden has partnerships with universities and other institutions world-wide. They are closed on faculty, school or university level. Our Publisher for International Cooperation’s and Staff Exchange Opportunities gives you an overview.

International activities follow our Internationalisation Strategy "TU Dresden - Connected to the World" and can be funded in the framework of TU Dresden's Institutional Strategy "The Synergetic University". One part of this funding has been made available for partnerships , that are of strategic relevance for the schools.

As a basis for international activities sometimes formal cooperation agreements are necessary, e.g. in order to meet the criteria for funding schemes or to agree on tuition-fee waivers for TU Dresden students going to a partner university for a study-abroad stay.

Memoranda of Understanding

The goal of a general memorandum of understanding is to maintain an intensive, complex, and comprehensive cooperative relationship with select, renowned partner institutions.

Before finalising a Memorandum please verify the following:

  • Is sufficient information available regarding the future partner university (e.g. academic and research areas, quality)?
  • What results are to be achieved?
  • Are financial resources and personnel available?
  • Are there clearly defined parties who are responsible for fulfilling the activities stipulated in the contract?

A Memorandum  is only to be finalised:

  • If, after verifying the points mentioned above, achieving the goals of the partnership seems promising and in line with TU Dresden’s internationalisation strategy.
  • If a certain base exists within the TU Dresden; normally, this is the case when at least three faculties or branches of study are working with the foreign institution in question.

Have all of the aforementioned points been verified?
If so, please turn in this form
Finalising a memorandum of understanding requires the approval of the rectorial board, and the preparation of the document is to be agreed upon with the International Office.

Agreements between Faculties or Schools

The approval of university leadership is not required for a faculty or school agreement. However, if it is intended that the agreement be raised to the level of an institutional contract, partners from other faculties or departments should issue a clear declaration of interest. Commensurable results are required as well.

For information purposes, please inform the International Office of any faculty or school agreements once they are finalized.

Sample agreements can be downloaded in English.

Letter of Intent

If the international partner should require official confirmation of the arrangement for administrative purposes before the actual partnership begins, a temporary contract (Letter of Intent/ Memorandum of Understanding) can be issued with a maximum duration of 2 years. If the faculty members involved wish to extend the contract, they are required to submit a report of their results before the contract expires. All arrangements are to be agreed on by the International Office before they become binding.

Project-oriented Cooperation Agreements

If an institutional contract is required through explicitly formulated stipulations from a sponsor or similar, a project-oriented cooperation agreement is to be formulated so that it is evident that the agreement has only been approved for this purpose and is only valid until the project has been completed. All arrangements are to be agreed on by the International Office before they become binding.

Erasmus+ Agreement

The Erasmus+ Programme offers students and staff an excellent opportunity to participate in a European exchange programme. Erasmus agreements define the duration, number of exchange openings, and particularly the subject areas of the exchange students/instructors. Students can only be placed at a partner school through the Erasmus coordinator in their particular faculty.
