Special arrangements for the opening of the Ph.D. defense procedure during the restricted operations mode
As part of the measures against the further spread of the corona virus, the the doctoral office of the Faculty of Physics is still closed for the public until further notice. The office is occupied regularly from Monday to Thursday. Communication should mainly take place via e-mail to or by phone (advance appointment per mail is recommended).
For the opening of the doctorate proceedings, the application is initiated online via Promovendus. Subsequently, all documents that require original signatures or are needed as certified copies have to be sent to the Doctorate Office by conventional mail.
The following special rules hold during the restricted operations mode of TU Dresden:
1. Opening of the doctorate proceedings / Ph.D. defense procedure
- If the document "Confirmation of the supervising professor" cannot be originally signed by the supervising professor a digital signature is possible, preferably with a certified pdf-signature, if necessary with other digital tools. There is no need for a later submission of the original version.
- The certificate of good conduct and/or certified copies of diploma can be obtained at the Citizens' Office Dresden. Since getting an appointment can take longer, given its currently limited accessibility www.dresden.de/erreichbar, it suffices for the opening to upload a confirmation of the appointment in the Citizens' Office together with the uncertified copies of the diplomas to Promovendus.
- The certificate of good conductor can also be obtained online at at the BfJ under www.fuehrungszeugnis.bund.de. For that, an identity card with PIN is required and an application from mobile devices is currently not possible. The version "Antrag auf Erteilung eines Führungszeugnisses zur Vorlage bei einem Behörden" (Application for a certificate of good conduct for presentation to an authority) must be selected. Please enter "Promotionsbüro der Fakultät Physik, TU Dresden, 01062 Dresden" as the address for sending the certificate of good conduct.
2. Further procedure
- The thesis defense takes place in a hybrid form following these regulations, usually with the candidate, the committee, and the note taker present in person and the university public participating online.
