Applied Physics at the TU Dresden

In applied physics, when examining physical phenomena and questions, the focus is not only on gaining knowledge, but also and above all on real applicability and the resulting social benefit. In their activities, the scientists strive for a balance between basic research and application-oriented technology development. At the Institute for Applied Physics (IAP) at TU Dresden, we are primarily interested in the physics of light:

• How can light, e.g. from electrical energy, be generated?
• How does the propagation of light change when it interacts with matter?
• How can light be converted into energy?

For us, the key to answering these questions are primarily semiconductors, i.e. materials whose electrical conductivity is variable.
