Introduction

The Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics comprises 7 groups with a total of more than 80 employees and students. Groups conduct basic research in the field of experimental and theoretical particle physics, in the field of experimental nuclear astrophysics, and in the measurement of radiation doses in technical and medical applications. In addition, the institute leads several projects in outreach and tranfer of scientific knowledge to the public.

Cooperations

The Institute for Nuclear and Particle Physics maintains numerous collaborations with other national and international research institutes. In addition to the participation in large-scale experiments in nuclear and particle physics, cooperations take place, for example, in the form of a PhD program (graduate college) or joint meetings with other institutes.

Members

Our institute hosts more than 80 members — academic and research staff, students and support staff. Most of us can be found in the Andreas-Schubert-Bau on the main TU Dresden campus. Laboratories and offices are located in the basement, ground floor and 4th floor.

History

With the founding of the Faculty of Nuclear Engineering at TH Dresden in 1955, nuclear engineering and research began in East German universities. After diversification in the 1960s as an Institute for Experimental Nuclear Physics at the two locations Dresden (dosimetry) and Pirna-Copitz (neutron scattering, flight time spectrometry), international research activities on nuclear data within the IAEA developed as early as the 1980s. Since the 1990s, worldwide collaborations on nuclear and particle physics are in the main focus of the institute's activities.

About us

The Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics conducts fundamental research in the field of experimental and theoretical elementary particle physics on the structure and formation of our universe as well as on interactions between its smallest constituents. Other research projects are in the field of experimental nuclear astrophysics as well as the measurement of radiation doses in technical and medical applications.

In addition, the institute leads several national and international projects in outreach and transfer of scientific knowledge to the public. The Institute for Nuclear and Particle Physics comprises seven working groups with a total of more than 80 employees and students. In addition, there are close cooperations with the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), the European Research Center CERN as well as other national and international research facilities.
