Media Production and Design

Nowadays, digital media determines the image we have of science. Without it, many things remain abstract, dry, and hard to comprehend. We create pictures, web designs and print media that reach your audience – no matter whether these are colleagues, students or a broad public.

Excellent research results also deserve an excellent presentation. We offer comprehensive support in production of teaching and learning media or scientific media products, as well as in many other media-related aspects of your scientific projects.

Audio-Visual Media

Is it a product video? A business presentation or marketing film, trailer or movie commercial? Our service comprises individual consulting and creative concepts – and even a complete script if desired. We model objects, generate animation and simulate processes. The Media Center technicians are responsible for sustainable planning and day-to-day operations of the multimedia classroom features and provide support during scientific events.
Due to increasingly shorter product and innovation cycles equipping learning and teaching spaces with audio-video technology is a dynamic task frequently introducing new challenges. Thus, in addition to innovation, reliability and continuity are required as well.

E-Learning

The Media Center supports educators at the TU Dresden and many other partner institutions in planning, realization and evaluation of sustainable e-learning courses in teaching and research. Apart from providing user support for the learning platform OPAL, this also includes consultation and guidance for educators in terms of the didactics of media-based courses when using e-learning during teaching and learning processes, as well as designing and conducting trainings and workshops.

Program Supervision

We also develop strategies for the implementation of e-learning and convey them into supervised support programs support programs in cooperation with the administrative bodies of colleges and universities, as well as the Saxon State Ministry of Science and Fine Arts (SMWK). The aim is to permanently establish educational technologies in the daily activities of higher education. For this purpose we develop didactically and economically justified scenarios within the framework of an overall strategy. We are supported in our work by networking partners, who help us to identify relevant trends and develop implementation strategies. We offer supervision and consultation services for issues related to financing, organization, quality, and sustainability – from the earliest stage of application until project completion.

With the help of the web content management system set up by the Media Center, we support the website of the TU Dresden, and can appropriately present comprehensive information about the University. The Media Center ensures smooth operation of the system and continuously develops its functionalities. In addition, we offer trainings and provide consultation to users. We gladly offer our experience and expertise in order to create individual web portals (e.g. for research projects).

Scientific Information Systems

You want to get an overview of the research activities and findings of the University? Then use the Research Information System (Forschungsinformationssystem = FIS) of the TU Dresden developed and maintained by us. Potential partners from the areas of science and industry, as well as all those interested can find information regarding current research projects, scientific publications, copyrights, diploma and doctoral dissertations. The Media Center continuously develops the functionalities of the system and ensures its smooth operation.

Online Research And Technologies

The use of information and communication technologies for service can increase the effectiveness and efficiency, as well as the quality of examination processes – keyword: e-assessment. In order to develop this potential, the Media Center is intensely involved in the development and testing of e-assessment scenarios in higher education teaching. This also includes consulting regarding the didactic standards of e-examinations. Furthermore, we provide educators and students with many tried and tested technical tools and continuously develop these further. For example, we offer approved solutions for creating and conducting online surveys.

The use of new technologies provides scenarios of learning and teaching, which meet the challenges of students’ changing lives and work worlds. At the Media Center, online teaching and learning scenarios, as well as supportive tools, such as e- portfolios and e-assessment, are tested and investigated. Both through the academic education at the TU Dresden, as well as through cooperation with external partners, e.g. in the area of professional education and continued learning, organizational and technical aspects as well as questions regarding the didactic realization are the focal points.

E-Science

E-science refers to the use of computer networks and web-based information and communication technologies in all areas of scientific work. The Media Center systematically explores the framework conditions for and the effects of the use of various online tools in research and education, and also their significance in changing academic practices, traditional roles and structures. This includes especially digitally modified research processes and methods. Furthermore, we develop expert reports and training concepts for the creation and expansion of e-science competences and IT solutions, which meet scientific standards.

Online-Communities

In addition to the research of online communities, the Media Center of the TU Dresden engages in practical concept development, technical support, as well as education-related supervision and coordination. Social communities play an important role both in formal and in informal learning processes – equally so for knowledge management in organizations. They increase student motivation, organize the efficient exchange of knowledge and support the application of abstract knowledge in specific situations. As online communities learning and practice groups use a mutual repertoire of web-based communication methods. Thus, they can be developed and guided even with not all parties being present at the same time and place and make learning scenarios available to a greater audience.
