Environmental management at the TUD: Eco-label according to EMAS confirmed again
The environmental management system of the TU Dresden according to EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) has again been successfully checked this year by external experts. Following the monitoring audits in 2016 and 2017, a major audit to prolong the EMAS certification was scheduled for 3-5 December 2018. In addition to the TU Dresden campus, the Medical Faculty, the Botanical Garden and the TU Tharandt site including the Forest Botanical Garden were also audited by three auditors of KPMG Cert Umweltgutachterorganisation. Talks also took place with the university management, central facilities and various institutes of the TU.
"The experts praised our activities for the continuous improvement of our environmental performance and did not find any deviations according to EMAS," says Kathrin Brömmer, Environmental Management Officer at TU Dresden. What was particularly important was how the topic of the environment was dealt with in teaching, research and operations, and what opportunities and risks arose in relation to the environment.
Since 2003, the TU Dresden has been the first technical university in Germany to have an environmental management system in accordance with EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) and reports transparently on the university's environmental performance. The environmental statement, which provides a detailed overview of the TU Dresden's consumption figures and environmental protection activities and also contains the new environmental programme, will be published on the environmental management website in January.
