The circular mail of the Vice-Rector Academic Affairs for the 2021/2022 winter semester includes the following rules for teaching activities:
- The rules: Practicals and seminars can take place on site as long as there is 2.25m2 space for each person. This means that most of our teaching rooms can be filled up to 80% of their normal capacity.
- How we plan to implement them: Chairs must be 1.5m away from each other. If this is not possible, masks must also be worn when seated. For lecture halls, the following seating arrangements apply: One seat must remain free between each participant and only every second row of seats may be occupied.
- If the whole class cannot attend due to the limited capacity, a hybrid/online model should be used. For teaching activities that are repetitive content-wise, timetables should be offered that allow students to switch between online and on-site attendance.
- Courses that can only be taught on site (laboratory practicals, excursions, etc.) are exempt from the room occupancy rule. In these cases, a hygiene concept and proof of the “3G status” (recovered, vaccination or tested) are required. Information on how to record proof of the 3G status will follow.
- All exams can be conducted on site. In addition to the hygiene rules, all participants are required to provide proof of their 3G status.
- Queries regarding room occupancy should be directed to the respective Academic Affairs Offices, Studies Co-ordinators, Dean’s Offices or Schedule Planners. Please refrain from requesting room changes.
- The deadline for rejecting exam results from the 2020/2021 winter semester is September 30, 2021; and from the summer semester 2021, March 31, 2022. The repetition deadlines will not be enforced for the 2021/2022 winter semester.

Current information on self-tests and rapid tests
Please note: a negative self-test does not reliably exclude a corona infection! This means that social distancing, the wearing of masks, and compliance with hygiene and distance rules are still mandatory.
What is the current scientific evidence concerning this issue?
Especially at the beginning of an infection, the result - unlike PCR tests - is often still negative, although the person is already highly infectious. According to current findings, this affects around 40 percent of cases. Therefore, even a negatively tested and symptom-free person can infect other people.
Why are the self-tests useful anyway?
Even if not all infected persons are diagnosed, the quick tests can still be used to identify numerous (hidden and symptom-free) infections. This enables the chains of infection to be interrupted at an early stage and can prevent the further spread of the virus.

Significant changes:
Mouth-nose protection
Inside buildings of TU Dresden as well as on its premises, it is mandatory to wear a medical facemask (so-called OP mask or surgical mask), FFP2 mask, or comparable respiratory masks, in each case without exhalation valve. It is not required to wear them directly at the workplace itself, if the minimum distances between persons can be maintained (e.g. in a single office).
Self-testing
All employees with direct customer contact are required to test or be tested twice weekly to rule out a SARS-CoV-2 infection. Customer contact means direct physical contact or contact with actual face-to-face meetings in the course of performing job duties. This includes employee contact with, for example, contractors or outside service providers. Contact with students is not deemed as “customer contact”. The tests are ordered centrally and are provided free of charge. Proof of testing must be kept for a period of four weeks.
Data collection for contact tracing
Due to the new Corona Protection Ordinance, TU Dresden is obliged to also record the addresses of all persons entering the buildings for the purpose of contact tracing reasons. The data will be deleted after four weeks at the latest. The login tool will be adapted.

Call for compliance with hygiene regulations
