Climate Change
Climate Change is real. Everyone needs to act. TUD starts now!

Warming Stripes - Display of average temperatures from 1850 - 2018
The so-called "Warming Stripes" depict the change in the Earth’s average temperature in the past decades compared to the reference period 1971-2000. Each strip represents a year; years with a relatively lower average temperature are colored blue, while relatively warmer years are colored red. The greater the deviation from the long-term average temperature, the darker the color tone. This quickly shows how far global warming has already progressed and how alarming the rise in temperature is, especially in recent years.
It is clear that climate change has long since ceased to be an abstract future phenomenon. It is already proving to be a threat for the world’s population. TU Dresden also contributes to global warming, for example through the energy consumption of its buildings or the chosen means of transport of its members.
On our way to becoming a global university of the 21st century, we see it as our responsibility to make our contribution to combating climate change and towards a climate-friendly future. We are aware that there is still much to be done but we are well on the way and would like to get everyone on board.
A number of reforms, measures and ideas have already been initiated.
In addition to many projects, efforts are currently being focused on two approaches:
- The reform of the Environment Commission in order to give the issues of climate protection and sustainability a high level of relevance, as well as to develop strategic measures through our own competent committee.
- Increasing university-wide visibility of the climate protection efforts of various actors, while structurally anchoring sustainability issues in research, teaching and administration.
Initiatives, measures and projects
So far, many individual initiatives have gotten involved with climate and environmental protection. For example, the environmental protection group of Unit 4.4 has been working intensively on environmental protection and resource conservation on campus for around 20 years. Students have also repeatedly shown great commitment to advancing TU Dresden in these areas. For around 30 years, the TU Environmental Initiative (tuuwi) has been working on a variety of topics related to sustainability and climate protection. Recently, other groups such as the Students For Future, the project group for climate policy demands of the Students’ Council, and most recently the group ÜberfluTUng (Flooding) have been established.
The catalog of climate policy demands was developed in a participatory and open process by various students and represents a position paper on climate protection and climate justice at TU Dresden.
We would like to invite you to participate in the discussion, implementation and expansion of climate protection measures!
