Strategies & Guidelines
The Mission Statement and Fundamental Principles of TU Dresden
Technische Universität Dresden is among the leading and highest ranking universities in Germany with an extensive spectrum of subjects. As an educational institution, the university has a responsibility to and for the next generations. TU Dresden has declared its commitment to pay particular attention to the issues of protecting and shaping the environment for the better, both in its
Mission Statement and Fundamental Principles.
Environmental Guidelines and Environmental Report
In 2003, TU Dresden decided to introduce a validated environmental management system according to EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). By participating in EMAS, TU Dresden demonstrates that it goes above and beyond what is required with its commitment to environmental protection and that, as an educational institution, it views imparting environmental awareness in research and teaching as well as everyday work as its duty. To this end, the university has issued Environmental Guidelines that reflect the cornerstones of environmental policy at TU Dresden. EMAS requires participating organizations to undergo regular audit by a state-approved environmental verifier and to publicize their involvement in a yearly environmental declaration (Environmental Report).
Sustainability Strategy at TU Dresden
On behalf of the Extended University Executive Board, the Environment Commission is developing a Sustainability Strategy to underpin the university’s path to becoming and remaining a sustainable institution with specific goals and measures.
A particular focus of the Sustainability Strategy lies on the goal of climate neutrality at TU Dresden. In the first step of the strategy development, the concentration will be on ecological sustainability. In implementing and updating the strategy, attention will be given to social, economic and cultural aspects as well as their interactions.
Opening up participation in mapping out subgoals and measures to the university public represents a step toward entrenching the future Sustainability Strategy in our university life. Anyone who was interested in taking part in helping to develop the strategy was invited to attend the first workshop “TU IT NOW” on June 28, 2022. There will be additional opportunities to participate in the future.
