The Environment Commission Groups
Digitalization and Sustainability Group
Digitalization represents a strong, continual transformation process for TU Dresden that carries both opportunities and issues with respect to sustainable development. To this end, the group has set the following goals:
- Digital transformation will be effected at TU Dresden conscientiously and in consideration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- TU Dresden will use digitalization to promote its own sustainable development.
We are currently working to draft specific measures to achieve these goals.
The group currently comprises six people (staff and students). Others are welcome to join.
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Group
Biodiversity refers to the entire range of life on earth, including genes, species, ecosystems and their interactions on land, in fresh water, in oceans and in the air. We are currently in the midst of a mass species extinction. Since the first signs of species extinction in the 19th century, the decline in biodiversity has worsened. This extinction is one of the greatest challenges of our time because the loss of biodiversity not only determines how we survive in the future, but rather if we survive at all. With the Environment Commission’s signature of approval, the Chair of Business Administration esp. Environmental Management at IHI Zittau, the Green Office, Directorate 4 and the TU student environmental initiative have established a group for promoting “Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services at TUD.” This group has been put together as a pioneering project that aims to conserve and protect biodiversity and ecosystems on TUD’s campus. In this context, research and practical projects are being conducted and all students and staff are invited to volunteer and take part. At present, two practical projects are being conducted.
- “Biodiversity in the bag”
Starting in the 2022/23, first-year students will receive packets of seeds in their welcome bags, which they can then sow on campus or on their own balconies to make their environment a little more colorful and diverse. This campaign seeks to boost awareness of biodiversity on campus and offer an opportunity to take part in biodiversity conservation. The project is being conducted on a volunteer basis by Kristin Fiedler, Luise Heiland and Stephanie Kopp in cooperation with TU Dresden’s Green Office and the Sächsische Aufbaubank.
Contact: - Wildflower Meadows
This project is concentrated on the wildflower meadows on the TUD campus. This project seeks to increase wildflower and species diversity on campus. It is being carried out thanks to Ulrike Seiler, Katharina Stein, Lisa Junge and Remmer Sassen.
