The Excellence Strategy at TU Dresden

With three approved Clusters of Excellence, TU Dresden is still in the race for the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments. Its "University of Excellence" proposal has been submitted on 10 December 2018.
TUD is fully committed to defending its title of “University of Excellence”, as we are competing for permanent funding. It is a great opportunity as well as an attractive prospect.

Where does TUD stand in the Excellence Competition?

The application marathon for the Excellence Strategy ("ExStra") is in full swing. It requires stamina, because it is only in summer 2019 that the decision will be made whether TU Dresden will have been able to retain its title as “University of Excellence”. Before then, a number of milestones have to be reached.

A crucial one was the announcement by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) on the funding of Clusters of Excellence as part of the Excellence Strategy on 27 September 2018: Three out of six TUD cluster proposals have been approved. Hence, TUD is permitted to renew its application for the title of “University of Excellence”. Only universities with at least two approved Clusters will be eligible to apply for the second funding line “Universities of Excellence”.

TUD's “University of Excellence” proposal has been submitted on 10 December 2018. An on-site inspection by international reviewers will follow on 20/21 February 2019.

The final decision on the "University of Excellence" status will be made on 19 July 2019.
