Equality and Diversity Incentive Fund 2023
Providing manifold opportunities and using full potential!
As an inclusive university, it is natural for TU Dresden to acknowledge and promote diversity. Therefore, to improve participation at our university, it is vital to not only react to problems and obstacles but also to proactively take measures to create the conditions for a positive environment that fosters this goal. To this end, funds were made available to promote equality and diversity at TU Dresden for the year 2023. A selection committee selected innovative ideas for new measures as well as already existing projects for funding.
Funded projects from the year 2022
Projects funded in 2023
Development and production of a Para Ice Hockey sledge
TU Dresden (TUD) and Eissportclub Dresden e.V. have signed a cooperation agreement in 2022 to establish the sports of ice hockey and para ice hockey at the Dresden University Sports Centre (DHSZ). To support this project, a team of scientists and students from the TUD is working on developing an improved para-ice hockey sledge for the target group. The focus is on aspects such as user-specific adjustability, ergonomics, lightweight construction and efficient production. The targeted improvements to the equipment are intended to facilitate access to and participation in the team sport of para-ice hockey for interested persons, with and without impairments to the lower extremities.
Inclusion in the Office of Studies and the Department of Construction and Environment
Every day, many people come in and out of the Office of Student Affairs and the Departmental Administration, seeking advice in person or digitally. In order to deal with people with mental and physical disabilities in an appropriate and respectful manner, a further training course is being developed for the staff in cooperation with the ZfW. The employees will be given knowledge and recommendations for action for concrete situations in their daily work. In this way, all visitors and contacts are to be treated fairly according to their needs. The long-term goal of the measure is to increase the degree of inclusion and thus the quality of the services offered by the Student Affairs Offices and the Divisional Administration.
Expedition Campus - confidently on the way to studying
The aim of this project of the School Contact Point is to create an offer with a focus on the target group of first-year students and thus encourage students who do not come from an academic family to study. The format will be a target group-oriented addition to the existing school class offer Expedition Campus. It is intended to break down barriers and support prospective students in finding their way around the university and feeling that they belong. In this way, the project is intended to make a contribution to addressing educational inequality related to origin. The focus of this project is the needs-based development with the support of Arbeitskind e.V., among others, as well as the testing of the offer. For more information on the project, click here.
Crash Course Train-the-Trainer for TUD Experts in the Field of Gender Equality and Diversity".
At TU Dresden, there are people working in various areas with very well trained expertise in the fields of diversity and equality. The crash course Train-the-Trainer aims to encourage these people to regularly convey their expertise interactively in group formats within TU Dresden. The training focuses on didactic core competences that are intensively tested in practice. In addition, the participants will be strengthened in their appearance and work as trainers. Two crash courses will be offered in spring and autumn 2023. The dates will be published at the beginning of 2023. For more information on continuing education, click here.
Interdisciplinary series of events - Queer Parenthood
Queer issues are still marginalised in the medical curriculum. As a result, doctors often have insufficient knowledge about queer people and their life situations. Fear of contact, misconceptions and generalisations of many clients may have an impact on clinical practice. The series of events wants to contribute to breaking this cycle: It is dedicated to the topic of queer parenthood in order to promote queer health and to break with heteronormative family images. In addition to DIY workshops, there will be book and film screenings that will not only empower queer people, but also empower and network multipliers.
HalTUng! A podcast about (anti-)discrimination at the TUD
In "HalTUng! A podcast about (anti-)discrimination at the TUD", various interviewees discuss aspects of group-related hostility and its relevance to everyday life at the university. Reports on experiences of university life are to be linked with academic discourse and current debates in order to encourage the listeners to be courageous observers. They will get to know different actors in anti-discrimination work inside and outside the university and experience (unusual) ways of dealing with discriminatory behaviour. Students and employees will have the opportunity to participate in a two-day workshop to introduce the podcast format.
Mixed Methods Study on the Experience of Discrimination by Students and Employees at the TU Dresden
To date, the extent of (multiple) discrimination, the subjective horizon of experience of those affected, as well as the individual consequences of experiences of discrimination on studying or working at the TU Dresden have not been systematically recorded. The study on the experience of discrimination at the TU Dresden aims to draw a clearer picture of the diversity of students and employees by means of statistical and qualitative data. The recording of already experienced and, if applicable, feared experiences of discrimination should facilitate the description of discrimination risks and protection gaps at the TU Dresden. On this basis, it can be determined whether and to what extent it is necessary to expand the TU Dresden's anti-discrimination commitment.
We will inform you about the call for entries for 2024 in due time.
