UniSAFE - Gender-based violence and institutional responses: Building a knowledge base and operational tools to make universities and research organizations safe

UniSAFE Project
Gender-based violence refers to forms of violence that are directed against a person (or persons) because of their gender, or that disproportionately affect persons of a particular gender. In the project "UniSAFE - Gender-based violence and institutional responses: Building a knowledge base and operational tools to make universities and research organizations safe", the Competence Center Women in Science and Research CEWS of the GESIS Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, together with eight European partner:institutions, takes a look at these specific forms of violence.
The TU Dresden and 45 other universities and research institutions in a total of 15 European countries have agreed to participate in the research project "UniSAFE". Over a period of three years, UniSAFE will collect up-to-date, solid and reliable quantitative and qualitative data on gender-based violence, including emerging forms of violence, at universities and research institutions.
This includes an online survey on the incidence and impact of gender-based violence, including sexual harassment, which will take place at collaborating institutions from January to April 2022 and is one of the largest of its kind in Europe in the research sector. In addition, legal and policy frameworks in science will be assessed through extensive mapping in 30 EU and associated countries. The results of the mapping can be viewed under: https://unisafe-gbv.eu/project-news/unisafe-baseline-gbv-policies/
With the help of institutional case studies and qualitative interviews, the mechanisms of gender-based violence including its impact in science institutions will be investigated and the interaction of resources and hindering factors will be assessed. The results will be integrated into policy recommendations to reduce gender-based violence in academic environments and research workplaces in Europe. At the same time, the project should lead to more confidence among students and employees in dealing with gender-based violence. A toolbox for universities and research institutions will be developed to implement effective strategies and measures at universities and research organizations.
The podcast series #MeToo in Science documents contributions from the online conference hosted by the Marie Jahoda Center for International Gender Studies of the RUB together with the Gender Center and the Equal Opportunities Officer of the University of Paderborn on 17/6/1/7/202.
The contribution will be spoken by Dr. Anke Lipinsky (GESIS Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences).
The podcast is only available in German.
The project is coordinated and implemented at TUD in cooperation with the Diversity Management department and Anja Wiede from the Complaints Office.
