Living Library
TUD’s special contribution to this year’s International Day of Tolerance is the “living library.” It transforms people who have experienced discrimination and exclusion for various reasons into books to tell their stories. As is the case in a classic library, readers can borrow these books for a limited time. This means that they have twenty minutes for a one-on-one conversation with their chosen person. Of course, there are a few ground rules: The books only divulge as much information as they choose, and the moderation team is always to hand.
The living library inspires conversations between individuals who would probably have never met under normal circumstances. The books share views and experiences that all too often fall upon deaf ears. In hearing these perspectives, readers are encouraged to question their opinions and broaden their horizons.
The living library will take place on November 17 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kulturcafé of the Johannstädter Kulturtreff (Elisenstraße 35, 01307 Dresden). Readers can drop by at any time and do not need to register in advance.
