Students and alumni from 1828 to 1887
Register of students from the technical educational establishment/ polytechnic institute/ technical school of Dresden from (1828) 1836 – 1887
The list is based on the ‘programs’ and ‘annual reports’ from 1836 until 1887/88. Up to 1861/62 the ‘register of students’ of the technical educational establishment and of the polytechnic institute respectively had been captured in the ‘program’; afterwards the, in the ‘programs’ and ‘annual reports’ included, listing of alumni and which had archived their pre-degree exam after 1883 respectively. Also peoples which had been priced with medals and praises were contained.
Until 1862 there was the division in lower department and – thereon constructive – the upper department, and since 1840 the specialization within the departments: section A for engine building and mechanical technique, section B for road making, hydraulic engineering, bridge building and railway engineering, and section C for chemical technique. These directions of specialization appear in the column ‘comment’ short as ‘mechanical technique’, ‘construction engineering’, and ‘chemical technique’.
From 1862 had been studied in the four professional schools (sections) A, B, C, D. But at first a preparatory course had to make. A stood for engine building and mechanical technique, B for engineering, C for chemistry and chemical technique, and D for the teacher training for mathematic-natural scientific-technical direction. The membership to on of these professional schools A, B, C, D is marked under ‘comment’ with the already used sections. For example for D appears ‘section of teachers’.
From 1874 the study is in five sections, mechanical section, section of engineering, section of building construction, chemical section, section of teachers; these names appear under ‘comment’ mostly in conjunctions with the final degree. If the entry in the column ‘comment’ is missing, the person concerned has only studied in lower departments or has left the institutions without a degree. At least according to the previous stand of the assessment.
From 1839 until 1842 the register of students only includes the last name, not the first name.
We are still working on the list of students and alumni until 1945. Further sources will be consulted. Changes – completions and specifications – are expected for the following partial list.
