Digital Signing and Encryption of E-Mails with Outlook Web App (OWA)
Emails can be encrypted as well with OWA (Outlook Web App). Before the signing and encryption some conditions need to be met:
Please check first whether your certificates are installed. Therefore go to the Windows Control Panel, Internet Options, change to Content and click on Certificates. Find further information about user certificates here: Digital Signature - Public Key Infrastruktur (PKI).
OWA can only sign and encrypt messages with the help of the 32-bit version of the Internet Explorer.
Please log in to OWA with the Internet Explorer and your ZIH-LOGIN and select Display All Options from the menu Options.
Click on Settings (1), then S/MIME (2) and at last on Download S/MIME Control element (3).
Afterwards you will be asked what you want to do with the downloaded file. Select Run.
After the download, a control element will be displayed as shown in the next picture.
Click on the Notification and choose Run Add-On.
In the following security dialog choose Execute.
Now again go to the S/MIME settings and check the automatical signing and/or encrypting. Confirm your selection with Save.
From now on you can enable encryption and signing with OWA and the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer.
