Practical Information
When does the Summer School take place?
From Sunday, the 5th September 2021 to Friday, the 10th September 2021
Where is the Summer School located?

Dresden Baroque Skyline
The Summer School is located in the city of Dresden. Famous for its beautiful Baroque scenery and its rich cultural life, it also is home to one of Germany’s eleven Universities of Excellence. Besides, the history of the city has been closely intertwined with the major lines of 20th century European history. During World War II, large parts of the city were destroyed in the Dresden fire bombing. After the war, Dresden became part of the socialist German Democratic Republic. In our social activities, we will explore Dresden, its cultural life and its history and look for links to Human Rights questions. But we will also experience Dresden as a city that has a lot to offer in terms of freetime activities, from bars and restaurants to outdoor sports.
Who can participate?
This Summer School is for advanced students of law, political science, international relations and related subjects who are motivated to engage with the topic of Human Rights. Both, students with prior knowledge about the European Human Rights system, as well as students without such prior knowledge are invited to join, as the Summer School will offer an introductory block on the basics of the ECHR before it proceeds to the advanced themes of our focus topic. We encourage students from all regions around the world to participate!
Every student who would like to participate, needs to register here.

What about Accommodation?
You are free to select your own accommodation in the city of Dresden. We have compiled a list of hostels that are relatively close to the University and affordable: here. In addition, we also plan to arrange a couch-surfing platform where local students offer a couch to crush on. For all those who would like to meet students from Dresden and would rather spend their money on local food and drinks than on accommodation, please send us an e-mail.

What if I cannot come to Dresden due to the Covid-19 Corona Virus?
We are hoping that by September 2021 we will be able to welcome all of you in person in Dresden. But of course we are aware that also in fall 2021 there could still be travel retrictions or rules regarding the size of events due to Corona virus. Therefore, we are preparing a hybrid version of the event that will include live streaming of the presentations and discussions and the possibility to ask questions through an online platform. More detailed information will be available soon.
